The annual James Beard Awards are some of the most highly anticipated awards in the U.S. culinary scene. This year, six finalists in Washington, D.C. were in the running for an award. And now, Chef Masako Morishita of Perry’s is the official winner in the Emerging Chef category.
The Emerging Chef Award honors someone new and vibrant, who possesses extraordinary talent, and is early on in their journey. Upon accepting the award, Chef Morishita exclaimed that this was her “wildest American dream come true.”
Chef Morishita specializes in Japanese comfort food such as garlic edamame dumplings and okonomiyaki, drawing from her experience as a Japanese-American immigrant. She brings a fresh perspective to Perry’s, which has been a beloved destination in Adams Morgan since 1984.
Perry’s is one of our favorite spots for any occasion, from a casual happy hour on their breezy rooftop terrace to an upscale dinner in their spacious dining room. Be sure to check it out as soon as possible, as reservations are bound to get snatched up quickly!
