Last December, one of the region’s iconic amusement parks, Six Flags America, closed its gates for the final time after 26 years of trying to bring joy to the community.
Now, the 500+ acre property has been purchased, and among the leaders of the new ownership group is none other than the DMV-area native and NBA legend Kevin Durant!
How is Kevin Durant involved in purchasing the Six Flags property in Prince George’s County?
Kevin Durant, who grew up in Prince George’s County, is involved in the purchase of the Six Flags property through his company 35V.
Through his company, 35V, Durant has made investments that have helped to fund over 100 startups and established the Durant Family Foundation, which focuses on enriching the lives of at-risk youth through educational, athletic, and social programs.
Partnering with Kevin Durant’s 35V in the purchase is TPA Group, a real estate investment firm based in Atlanta.
The exact amount that it cost to purchase the property has not yet been publicly disclosed.

What are the development plans for the old Six Flags property?
Representatives of the ownership group and local officials have come out in favor of changing the property from an amusement park to a mixed-use development.
When discussing the property’s potential, local Council Chair Krystal Oriadha mentioned National Harbor, hinting at a potential direction for the property that could feature a similar variety of hospitality and entertainment businesses, as well as several restaurants.
However, there is an increasing emphasis on community involvement to help developers define ways to make a new destination that attracts visitors without alienating locals, so reports suggest that investors plan to host community meetings in the future.
