If you’re interested in celebrating the Lunar New Year in D.C., then you’re in luck!
This year, the lunar calendar enters the year 4723, which happens to be the Year of the Horse in the 12-year Chinese Zodiac cycle.
The new lunar year officially begins on Tuesday, February 17th, and the occasion will be celebrated across the District.
D.C. Lunar New Year Parade

On Sunday, February 22nd, starting at 2 pm, the 2026 Lunar New Year Parade will take place in Downtown D.C.’s Chinatown.
The parade will feature lion and dragon performances, music and marching bands, community organizations, and a fireworks and firecracker finale!
Lunar New Year Festival at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art

On Saturday, February 21st, from 12 to 6 pm, the National Museum of Asian Art is set to host a major festival celebrating the lunar new year!
The family-friendly event will have vendors from local businesses offering food, artisan-made items, and more.
There will also be educational displays, live performances, and engaging talks, just to name a few of the activities planned.
Lion & Dragon Dance for Lunar New Year at MGM National Harbor

A complete transformation of the MGM National Harbor’s iconic Conservatory in honor of the lunar new year will feature incredible displays celebrating the start of the Year of the Horse.
Throughout the month, the Conservatory will have:
- A golden bamboo forest stretching to 25-foot heights.
- Eight 32-foot galloping horse displays.
- Traditional red lanterns to ward off bad luck.
On February 15th at 6 pm, the MGM NationalHarbor will be hosting an authentic Lion and Dragon Dance in celebration of the new year.

- Karravaan – On February 17th and 21st, Karravaan is offering a special à la carte menu in honor of the Lunar New Year, with traditional foods believed to bring prosperity, longevity, and good fortune.
- SeoulSpice Korean Kitchen – Between February 20th and the 22nd, SeoulSpice Korean Kitchen is hosting a weekend-long event where customers can check underneath their bowls for a horseshoe sticker that could lead to a traditional white envelope filled with fortunes and “Big Luck” gift cards.
- Bar Chinois – Enjoy a special prix fixe menu on February 17th to celebrate the Lunar New Year at either one of Bar Chinois’ locations (DC or Arlington).
- Tiger Fork – From February 17th to the 28th, Tiger Fork is hosting a special à la carte menu to celebrate the Lunar New Year!
