The DMV area experienced its warmest day in months yesterday, with temperatures at all three regional airports reportedly reaching 84 degrees by 3 pm – breaking decade-long temperature records!
Yesterday’s recorded temperatures and the previous temperature records from each regional airport were:
- Reagan National Airport was 84 degrees yesterday – its previous March 10th record was 79 degrees.
- Dulles International Airport hit 85 degrees yesterday – its previous temperature record for March 10th was set in 2016 at just 80 degrees.
- BWI Marshall Airport reported 85-degree temperatures yesterday – its last March 10th temperature record was also set in 2016, and was also just 80 degrees.
Was this the hottest March 10th in Washington, D.C. history?
This is the warmest March 10th measured at several locations around the DMV area!
Particularly relevant for Washingtonians is the previous record temperature at Reagan National Airport, since it is in such proximity to the District, it’s not unreasonable to attribute a record-breaking temperature recording there to the District as well.
Which means that yes, this may very well have been the warmest March 10th ever recorded in the District!

Does this mean that warm weather is finally here to stay?
While this was a fantastic taste of the warm weather that Washingtonians can expect around the District this spring, cooler weather is unfortunately returning later this week.
Later this week, temperatures are expected to peak around the low-50s on Friday and in the mid-50s on Saturday.
Even more concerning is that next week’s peak temperatures could reach as low as 40 degrees!
That being said, warmer weather is on its way!
By the end of the month, temperatures are forecasted to hover around 60 degrees, and by April, even warmer weather and peak blooms will be taking over the District!
