Washingtonians may have a love-hate relationship with the actual D.C. Metro, but Metrobar is another story.
Now, Metrobar is going off the rails in the best way debuting its railcar bar, offering patrons the chance to drink inside a decommissioned 5000-series Metro car!
“We’re excited to announce doors are opening to the railcar at metrobar!” Metrobar announced on Instagram. “Track work is complete and you and your crew are invited to go off the rails and grab drinks in railcar 5058 this summer.”
The new railcar bar has seating for 38 people at both two-top and four-top tables. Metrobar even repurposed 26 old Metro seats reupholstered in “Potomac Blue.” With an indoor/outdoor DJ booth, flip-up windows, and a metal Metro map that adorns the inside, the railcar bar might just be the happiest Metrocar experience you’ll ever have!
Metrobar opened in June 2021, with metro-themed art installations and murals, signature cocktails like Last Stop and the Metro Fashioned, and rotating food trucks. The bar’s goal was as unique as its theme: to create “an intersectional space to connect people across cultural groups, and to provoke conversation about where the District has been, where it is now, and where it’s going.”
Now, Metrobar hosts outdoor movies, trivia nights, live music, and private events.
You can visit Metrobar at 640 Rhode Island Ave NE.
