After an 18-month-long wait, chef Johnny Spero has triumphantly returned to reopen his incredible flagship restaurant, Reverie, the only Michelin-star restaurant in Georgetown. The restaurant, which has been closed since its tragic fire that burnt down the original in 2022, is set to reopen for the first time on March 26th.
Why is Reverie one of Michelin’s most anticipated restaurants of 2024?
Reverie was named on Michelin’s shortlist of most anticipated restaurants in the country for 2024, which contained only 16 restaurants, and it was the only restaurant featured on this list from the D.C. area! Several factors impacted the decision, but according to Michelin with the benefit of some speculation, Reverie received its first Michelin star just before the fire occurred, in incredibly unfortunate timing.
Being assigned or rewarded with a Michelin star is a big deal, particularly in the hoch cuisine world, which can be incredibly competitive and change the lives of those connected to it, particularly the chefs responsible for obtaining or retaining one. For instance, it was considerable news for Washingtonians when two restaurants in D.C. were granted their first Michelin stars this past year, and while it should have been impossible for Reverie to retain it’s Michelin star while the restaurant was still in the process of being reconstructed, those behind Michelin’s culinary guide were optimistic about chef Johnny Spero’s return that they allowed Reverie to keep its one Michelin star rating through 2023 and into 2024.
How to book a table at Reverie
Reverie is a tasting menu-based restaurant that brings a fine dining experience to its customers without being pretentious or fussy as is so common with restaurants of similar caliber. The small hidden alley on Cherry Hill Lane in Georgetown which hosts this restaurant’s entry makes for a comfortable and inviting space that takes you past a stone garden and inside through the kitchen, making you feel important without inviting an uncomfortable sense of elitism.
The restaurant reopens on March 26th, and you can make your reservation on Reverie’s page on RESY. However, due to demand the earliest availability currently listed is on April 4th, but as awareness and demand increases as the opening date approaches, expect the wait for a reservation to get even longer.
How much will it cost?
A menu at Reverie is currently being offered at $255 per guest and will have optional beverage pairings for an added cost to complement the meal if you so choose. The menu is inspired by chef Johnny Spero’s global travel, which has included working at some of the world’s top eateries and consists of fresh local daily catches for its seafood and seasonal high-quality ingredients from around the globe to punctuate each dish.
