Very recently, the DMV area favorite, Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ, filed for a special permit that will allow it to rebrand to Mystic BBQ & Grill. This comes as quite a surprise to some, us included, as Myron Mixon, the founder of this BBQ joint is considered the “winningest man in barbeque”, claiming the title of “World Champion BBQ Pitmaster” not once or twice, but FIVE TIMES! This specific location, in Old Town Alexandria, VA, was his first restaurant location, so it’s particularly interesting to see this development.
Is Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ closing?
At this time, there does not seem to be anything certain about the future of one of our favorite DMV area BBQ spots. All we know is that a special use permit has been filed to change the business to Mystic BBQ & Grill and also a change in ownership. However, the permit also includes a statement that claims there will be no changes to the existing business other than the name and some cosmetic changes like painting, flooring, and decor. They also state that the location will continue to serve BBQ and some additional items that are consistent with what was on Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ’s menu when they first opened.
Now, there’s no sure way to know if this change means that the recipes are going to change a lot or a little, but the permit suggests the change won’t be too drastic at least with regards to the food.
Where can you still get Myron Mixon’s BBQ?
If you have a craving for this classic BBQ spot and the new place doesn’t scratch the same itch that Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ used to, there still is one other location in Dunn Loring, VA, but sadly it’s a bit further outside the city but the good news is that its just 25 minutes by car.
