Service changes will be in effect this month that are hoping to help the flow of traffic. According to the WMATA website, the Board of Directors approved a $4.957 billion capital and operating budget that improves service without raising fares.
Here are the changes that are in effect:
There will be longer weekend hours with the system opening on 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sundays and closing at 2 a.m. on Saturday and Sundays. First and last train times will vary by station though and stations will open 10 minutes prior to the first train. Here is a more complete schedule by station.
Beginning Monday morning, Red Line trains will be more frequent, running every 4 minutes rather than every 5 minutes during weekday rush periods.
Additionally, the Silver Line will be undergoing changes with additional services and two lines. Every other Silver train will run to New Carrollton instead Downtown Largo.
During peak times, there will be more Silver Line service:
- Eastbound from Wiehle-Reston to New Carrollton in the morning.
- Westbound from Stadium-Armory to Wiehle-Reston in the afternoon.
During peak times, there will be more red line service:
- Trains every 4 to 5 minutes during the busiest portions of weekday rush hours.
