Former President Barack and first lady Michelle Obama made an appearance at the White House on Wednesday for the official unveiling of their portraits commissioned for the National Portrait Gallery.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted the former presidential couple for the ceremony, the former president’s portrait painted by Robert McCurdy and the former first lady’s by Sharon Sprung.
“From this day forward, the official portraits of former President Obama and former First Lady Obama will now display on the walls of the White House – the People’s House – forever,” the White House wrote on Instagram.
Wednesday’s ceremony was the first time the Obamas both returned to the White House since 2017.
