The DMV drivers debate has been settled on a national scale: Washingtonians are not only the best drivers in the DMV, but in the entire United States!
Forbes Advisors released a new study comparing data from fatal car accidents across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., to come to its determination. It examined and compared the data for each state across six categories: the first five examined fatal accidents per 100,000 licensed drivers caused by distracted driving; drowsy driving; driving the wrong way down a one-way street or on the wrong side of the street; drunk driving; and failing to obey traffic signs, signals, or a traffic officer. The sixth category compared the number of drivers who looked at their phones per mile to the nationwide average.
“Washington, D.C., is home to the best drivers in the nation,” Forbes found.
D.C. drivers ranked the lowest (the best) in the U.S. coming in at No. 51 with 0.47 distracted driving accidents, 0.19 drowsy driving accidents, 0.19 wrong way driving accidents, and 3.17 drunk driving accidents per 100,000 licensed drivers.
Meanwhile, Maryland also proved relatively safe, coming in at No. 40, and Virginia tied with North Dakota at No. 28.
