She’s one large mother-ducker!
What is believed to be the world’s largest rubber duck is heading to the DMV for the first time ever.
“Mama Duck“—a 61-foot-tall, 64-foot-wide, and 74-foot-long rubber duck, that weighs roughly 30,000 pounds—was created by an imaginative Craig Samborski in 2014 and she has been traveling the country ever since.
“I didn’t know what I was getting into when I built this,” Samborski told WTOP.
It takes approximately 40 minutes to inflate this big mama (duck), she does not fit into any known bathtub, and packing her for travel is no simple task, Still, Samborski loves every second of it.
“There are so many people in the world that love rubber ducks,” Samborski said. “That’s my biggest thing why I love doing this is because it makes people so happy.”
Mama Duck is making her DMV maiden voyage in Leonardtown, Maryland, from Aug. 4-6 for Wharf Fest, followed by an appearance in Crisfield, Maryland, from Aug. 11-13 for Little Big Townfest.
In addition to taking selfies with Mama Duck (the only time you get a pass for making your best duck face!), each festival will also feature a variety of games and amusement events, live music, shopping at vendors, food and drinks. Sounds like a quack-tastic time!
“It brings joy to people, when you look at something that is so whimsical, and totally exaggerated with its size,” Samborski told Chesapeake Bay Magazine. “A rubber duck is one of the few global icons that everybody can identify.”
