When it comes to camping or heading out in the great outdoors to be one with nature, not everyone has the same definition for comfort or the same bare minimums when it comes to quality of life.
Unfortunately, this reality leaves what could be a great travel experience for couples or friends off the table; however, these ‘Postcard Cabins’ in the Shenandoah Valley are the perfect middle ground, offering quality comfort and luxurious amenities all while being surrounded by nature!
What are ‘Postcard Cabins’?
These cabins are ostensibly like micro-cabins or tiny homes (between 150 and 185 square feet) that are owned and operated by Marriott Bonvoy, a highly reputable hotel chain.
Stripped down to the basics, each standalone cabin is around the size of a small hotel room, featuring all the general amenities you might expect to find in a top-tier hotel:
- Personal kitchenette
- En-suite bathrooms
- Fresh linens and cookware
- Year-round climate control
- Private fire pit
- Dog-friendly policy

Where are the ‘Postcard Cabins’?
These cabins are located near the edge of the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Shenandoah Valley.
Specifically, they are located in Stanardsville, Virginia, which is only about a 2-hour drive from Washington, D.C.!
It’s worth keeping in mind that because of these cabins’ remote location, you’ll be getting an authentic great-outdoors experience, which means that you will be responsible for bringing and preparing all of your own meals – there are no restaurants in the area.

When is the best time to visit?
While the weather conditions outside might impact what you choose to do in terms of outdoor activities during your stay, whether that be firing up their complementary grill, heading out along the on-site nature walk located near the cabins, or just sitting around by the fire pit, the cabins themselves are completely climate-controlled, ensuring a comfortable stay year-round.
That being said, these cabins are becoming an increasingly popular experience for adventurers and tend to fill up (for instance, Valentine’s Day is already booked up), so be sure to make your reservation with plenty of time in advance!
The rates will also be impacted by when you choose to visit; prices are generally lower from Sunday to Wednesday nights and higher between Thursday and Saturday nights.
