The frigid start to the year has taken its toll on the mental and, in some cases, even physical health of residents of the District and the DMV area as a whole.
Now, despite the nearly four-week stretch of below-freezing temperatures around the District earlier this year and snowfall as recent as this past Sunday, the District might get its warmest day of the year so far this weekend!

How warm is it going to be in Washington, D.C. this weekend?
This weekend, specifically on Saturday, February 28th, the District is forecasted to reach 64 degrees with mostly sunny skies and little to no wind!
This would be the warmest day of 2026, surpassing the 63-degree day that was recorded in D.C. on January 7th.
In other words, this weekend is going to be the absolute best possible day to go outside and plan some activities to make the most of the good weather!
If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to planning things to do around D.C. this weekend, here are a few ideas:
- Explore the outdoor gardens at the Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens
- Go on a day trip to one of the small town spring getaways around D.C.
- Check out the scenic 105-mile ‘Skyline Drive’ driving through Shenandoah National Park
- Take a short excursion to one of these great hiking trails near the District

Does this mean that spring weather is finally here?
Unfortunately, this does not mean the end of the cold weather for the District.
Despite the warm weather slated for the first half of this weekend, the lingering winter weather will return in full force by the start of next week.
According to the Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast, there is a 58% chance of snow on Monday, March 2nd, with a high of 33 degrees and a low of 28 degrees.
So, sadly, Washingtonians are not out of the woods yet when it comes to the cold.
