One of the most unique full moons of the year is almost upon us!
Tomorrow evening, on Wednesday, April 1st, a full ‘pink’ moon will be floating over the D.C. horizon, and if the weather permits, it will light up the night sky.
This will be the first official full moon of spring, which means consistently warm weather should finally be here soon.
What is a full pink moon?
A full pink moon refers to a full moon during April, and it just so happens that this will also be considered a Paschal Moon, meaning that it is the first full moon of spring!
The name “Pink Moon” doesn’t refer to the moon’s color; its name is inspired by the color of the blooming creeping phlox (also known as moss phlox) often associated with early spring.

When is the full ‘pink’ moon going to happen, and will it be visible?
The full pink moon will be on Wednesday, April 1st, and is expected to peak in its “fullness” at around 10:11 pm; however, the moon is expected to look full for around 24 hours after it reaches its peak fullness, which means that you’ll have two nights to be able to try and see it!
Regarding visibility, there are storm clouds predicted to hit the D.C. area tomorrow evening, which means that there is unfortunately a strong chance that the full ‘pink’ moon will not be visible on the night of April 1st.
That being said, considering the moon will appear to be full for another 24 hours, there is a chance that you’ll be able to see it on the evening of Thursday, April 2nd, and while it won’t technically be at its peak, it should still be a stunning sight!
