What is the Highland County Maple Festival?
The Highland County Maple Festival is a celebration of the role that maple syrup harvesting has had in establishing the local community’s traditions and culture.
The first Maple Festival of Highland County dates back to 1959, making it one of the oldest celebrations of its kind in the region, and since then, it’s grown to be one of the largest as well.
In recent years, the county-wide event has consistently drawn tens of thousands of visitors, making it one of the area’s most popular and iconic events.
After a bill signed into law by the Governor of Virginia in 2014, this has been designated as the ‘official maple festival of Virginia’, an honor that the local community takes very seriously.
