The D.C. food scene is finally getting the attention it deserves!
Just this week a D.C. chef was rated best in the nation by the James Beard Foundation for the second year in a row, and in another category, a D.C. chef won best-emerging chef in the nation!
So, now that we know D.C.’s food scene is one of the best in the world, let’s introduce its most recent additions to the MICHELIN Guide:
1. Almeda – Petworth
This little spot in Petworth helmed by the incredible Chef Danielle Harris is an incredible place serving up afro-fusion-inspired recipes that elevate classic favorites
The best part is you get even the slightest hint of pretentiousness here that you, unfortunately, tend to find at some high-end eateries around the city – the space may be limited but the restaurant is warm and welcoming.
2. Balos Estiatorio – Dupont Circle
Take your taste buds on a trip to Greece at this incredible spot in Dupont Circle for a dining experience that is just as fun as it is delicious!
Everything about this spot, from the decor to the menu, really does make you feel like you’re having a real deal Greek meal!
3. Mita – Shaw
This tasting-menu-only plant-based spot highlights incredible Latin American recipes by exploring an incredible array of cultures and culinary traditions to create an incredible and unique dining experience.
In our opinion, this spot might just take home the top spot for best plating presentation in the capital – here the dishes are as incredibly beautiful and eye-catching as they are flavorful and satisfying.
4. Moon Rabbit -Penn Quarter
Moon Rabbit and Chef Kevin Tien have both rocketed in popularity as of late, so it’s no surprise to see them get the nod from the MICHELIN Guide as one of their newest recommended spots to eat in the capital.
In case you aren’t familiar, Moon Rabbit is a spot that elevates and reimagines Vietnamese cuisine to take it to new levels resulting in a menu that is packed with incredible flavor in every bite.
5. Omakase at Barracks Row – Capitol Hill
This incredible Omakase dining experience by Chef Yi “Ricky” Wang is one of the most unique of its genre, potentially in the entire country.
Chef Wang’s menu often reflects seasonal ingredients and features an incredible balance between ingredients that have been freshly imported from Japan and high-quality ingredients that have been sourced locally.
The authenticity of this place is exquisite, so we don’t think it falls into the realm of fusion at all, but Chef Wang’s use of worldly ingredients is so innovative that it’s exciting.
