Every year, without fail, Country Living produces a ranking of the most magical Christmas towns in the United States!
While the Mid-Atlantic is known for towns that go all out around the holidays, including towns like Alexandria, Annapolis, and Frederick, that put on some incredible seasonal displays, there is one small town in the region that ranks as the #2 most magical Christmas town in the entire country!
That town is none other than Middleburg, Virginia, famous for its small-town charm and its renowned Christmas parade, which attracts a crowd of thousands every year.

What makes Middleburg one of the best Christmas towns in the nation?
According to the ranking, Middleburg offers one of the most authentic “old-fashioned” Christmas experiences in the nation, complete with vibes that feel right out of a Hallmark movie!
Around Christmas season, the town typically gets a healthy sprinkling of snow, just enough to add to the charm but not so much that visiting or navigating the streets is difficult.
Seemingly, all the residents of Middleburg are completely bought in on the Christmas cheer, as they manage to be excited enough about the season to warrant a year-round Christmas-themed store open all year long!

When is the Middleburg Christmas Parade?
The town’s annual Christmas Parade features marching bands, elaborate seasonally themed floats, community groups, local clubs, and even horses and hounds.
While the Christmas Parade sets the tone for the holiday season in Middleburg, it’s worth noting in your calendar that it actually takes place earlier in the month, on December 6th.
While in town, you can stop by the year-round Christmas-themed shop called “The Christmas Sleigh”, take sips of small-batched hard cider brewed right in town at Mt. Defiance, and also shop for some of the most whimsical and charming holiday decorations, like quality pewter ornaments or specialty wind-up music boxes.
