Virginia’s first Buc-ee’s location opening last summer in Rockingham County, was the talk of the town for a while as Washingtonians prepared for their first-ever experience visiting one of the most famous gas station chains in the nation!
That being said, the 2-hour driving distance from the District made the experience inaccessible to those who couldn’t justify the trip all the way there and back.
The good news is that a second Buc-ee’s location might be coming to Virginia, and this time, a whole lot closer to the DMV area!
Where is the new proposed Buc-ee’s going to be?
The proposed Buc-ee’s is located in Stafford County, on a 36-acre property located off Exit 140 of Interstate 195.
The site would provide adequate space for the full iconic Buc-ee’s experience: around 120 gas pumps and an over 40,000 square foot convenience store, famous for its iconic ‘Beaver Nuggets’ and other food offerings like fresh Brisket or house-made fudge.

Has the proposed Buc-ee’s been confirmed?
No, or at least not yet.
In April, the Stafford County Planning Commission voted 4-3 in favor of the Buc-ee’s proposal, a major positive sign for the project as it now heads into its final vote from the Board of Supervisors, which will take place later this year.
There is some vocal opposition, suggesting that the Buc-ee’s would bring additional traffic to an already congested I-195 corridor.
When is the final vote going to be held? And when would the Buc-ee’s be built?
The final vote from the Board of Supervisors does not yet have a clear date at this time, but there is a public hearing set for tomorrow (May 19th) to provide the local community a chance to share their concerns and thoughts about the project.
